A window unit is fifty to ninety pounds of metal held up by a sash and whatever the last person improvised. Done right it is boring for ten years; done badly it is a draught, a stain and a phone call to the building.
A steel support bracket carries the weight outside the sill instead of the window frame carrying it. That is the difference between an install and a wedge.
A unit set dead level drips inside. It is pitched a few degrees to the outside and checked with a level, not by eye.
Side panels extended to the frame and the sash line sealed. Less street noise, fewer insects, and the cold air stays in the room.
Removed, carried down and taken away in the same visit at no charge — not left in the hallway for the super to deal with.

“Can’t two of us just lift it in?”

“Do you supply the air conditioner?”
No — you buy the unit you want and we install it. That keeps us out of the business of selling you hardware, and it keeps the price on this page honest.
“My building requires a bracket.”
Most do, and we fit one as standard rather than as an upsell. If your building has a specific spec, send it with the photo and we work to it.
“What about the old unit?”
Out, down and away on the same visit, at no charge. Removal alone — the autumn take-out — is a separate small job if that is all you need.
How the hour goes
Four steps. The second one is the one nobody skips here and almost everybody skips otherwise.
Old unit out
The old unit comes out onto a covered floor, the sill and frame are checked for rot and damage, and anything found gets photographed before we go further.
Bracket fitted and levelled
A steel support bracket takes the load outside the sill and is set with a level, pitched slightly outward so condensate leaves the building.
Unit seated and secured
The unit is set on the bracket, the sash comes down onto it and it is secured so the window cannot be lifted from outside.
Sealed and tested
Side panels out to the frame, sash line sealed, unit run and the discharge temperature checked before we leave.

What does window AC installation cost in NYC?
Ours is $399 per unit with the bracket, the seal and removal of the old unit included. Quotes around the city run from about $150 for a drop-in to $500 with hardware — the difference is usually whether a bracket and disposal are in the number.
Do I need a bracket?
Almost certainly. Most buildings require one, and physics requires one above the second floor. We fit one as standard rather than charging for it separately.
Can you install a unit I bought online?
Yes — that is the normal case. Send the model with your photo of the window so we know its weight and depth before the day.
Will you take the old one away?
Yes, at no charge, on the same visit. If you only need the old unit removed and stored for the winter, that is a smaller separate job.
How long does it take?
About an hour for a straightforward window. Two people come for anything above the second floor, because leaning out over a sill with ninety pounds is not a one-person job.
